Our absolute favorite part of the Buy Good Feel Good Expo 2018 in Toronto was meeting like-minded brands that are doing their part to make the world a better place.
Here are a few of our favorites:
1. Wakami Canada - Accessories handcrafted by women in rural villages of Guatemala. We connected right away because they also support women in Latin America.
"Dreams + Opportunities = Change". Check out this video that tells their story:
3. Chicza Gum - Makes chewing gum from a chicozapote tree. The trees are not harmed and unlike other regions of Mexico, where up to 80% of the original jungles have been lost to logging, cattle ranching, and agriculture, these rainforests have survived and thrived.
We learned that the majority of commercially available gums normally only carry 5-7% of gum base, if any at all, and the rest is all plastics. To learn more check out the TED talk "The Dark Side of the Chew".
4. Roota - Rugs, quilts, and handbags handmade by some of Egypt's garbage collectors. Roota's mission is to help people "rise out of the ashes" and to raise the social, educational, economic and health standards of marginalized groups in Egypt.
5. Tenfed - A clothing company based out of Toronto, Ontario. For every Tenfed item that is sold, TEN meals are provided to feed hungry children around the globe with the help of their partner, Kids Against Hunger Canada.
